The Russian arm of Siemens Mobility Services will get a boost in their railway maintenance operations with the installation of 2 new Stratasys Fortus 450mc 3D printers at two of their sites in Russia.
This comes after the successful implementation of Stratasys Railway Solutions for various companies across the German and UK rail industry in the past year. This is also in line with Siemens winning a contract to build 13 high-speed Velaro trains for the Russian train company, RZD.
Siemens will also maintain and service the existing fleet of 16 trains and the new 13 trains for the next 30 years, and is looking to maintain a 99% fleet availability record
Leveraging on Siemen Mobility’s knowledge and Stratasys 450mc printers, the team at St. Petersburg and Moscow will now be able to rapidly 3D print replacement parts cost-effectively.
The investment also heralds the start of Siemens Mobility’s ‘Easy Sparovation Part’ network in Russia, which aims to keep a digital inventory of original train parts to optimize the ad-hoc in-house replacement and production of components with 3D printing to meet tight deadlines.
“3D printing makes for a perfect add-on to aid our production and provides us with the flexibility to replace and create parts ourselves, anytime they are needed,” said Alexey Fedoseev, Head of Customer Services, Siemens Mobility Russia.
With the efficiency-driven capabilities afforded by 3D printing, it’s no surprise that there is an uptake in technology adoption by rail maintenance and service providers such as Siemens Mobility.
