With their new Missing Link feature film set to hit the box office in early April, animation studio Laika has once again linked up with Nike to release a new altered take of the latter’s Air Max 1 sneaker.

The new shoe named Air Max Susan was specially designed with a brown, yellow, and green palette, and was inspired by the main character, Mr. Link’s colorful patterned costume.

The production of the Laika Missing Link x Nike Air Max Susan utilized Stratasys PolyJet technology and is the latest example of Nike adopting 3D printing for their footwear. Nike is no stranger to 3D printing, as they had previously adopted the tech for their Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% and an updated version.

The shoe isn’t the only 3D printing usage that Laika is using, as their upcoming film Missing Link, actually features the use of 106,000 3D printed faces that were made with the J750 and Connex3 3D printers from Stratasys, and is a testament to the close partnership between the two companies.

Since 2009, Laika has been utilizing Stratasys PolyJet technology for their films like Coraline, Paranorman, The Boxtrolls and Kubo and the Two Strings, and they were recognized for their 3D printing endeavors by winning a Scientific and Engineering Oscar plaque at the 2016 Academy Awards.

This new Nike x Laika collaboration will be the first to see a commercial release from April 9th on Nike.com and will come three days before the film’s official release in America.
